About the Position:

The goal of the Community Manager is to help represent the Sexy Nerds voice across multiple platforms. We are proud to represent a handful of brands in our portfolio which include the flagship, Sexy Nerds, and our convention, Brooklyn Comic Con. We have numerous upcoming assets and projects which include: an e-commerce brand, a podcast, a blockchain/crypto project, pop-up exhibits, and additional conventions.

The primary goal of the Community Manager is to maintain and evolve the ways we connect with our community. This happens mostly online, with live events mixed in. Our main channels of interest are Instagram, Facebook [Groups, Pages, and Events], Our mailing lists (via Mailchimp), and Twitter. We also have expanding interest on other channels including but not limited to Youtube, Discord, TikTok, and more. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Breakdown: The work of the Position breaks down as approximately:

40% Online Channel Management and Posting

40% Strategic Meetings and Internal Communications.

20% Event planning, activation, and participation.

(40%) Online Channel Management and Posting

The CM will ensure that our online channels are active, relevant, and fostering a healthy space for engagement with our audience, fans, customers, vendors, sponsors and more, ie. our community. Posting will be focused on our IG and Facebook channels for daily content for the Sexy Nerds and Brooklyn Comic Con brands. Our mailing list (via Mailchimp)  is also a critical channel we want to develop further. Between multiple brands and all the channels, we feel starting with the main channels of Facebook, Instagram, Mailing List, and Twitter is plenty. As we get into a workflow we can discuss further possible activity on other channels.

(40%) Strategic Meetings and Internal Communications

With multiple projects and brands it is very important to us that we communicate clearly whenever we have people’s attention. It is important that our public communications reflects our internal mission. Meeting regularly is essential to discuss what we need to do, what we are doing, and what has been done. 

(20%) Event Planning, Activation and Participation

Our live events are primarily based in New York City. Our secondary city market is Toronto. In addition to these two main locations, we travel to major North American conventions. Sexy Nerds’ live events are complex productions. We are seeking a CM who will help bring an additional layer of support and structure to our live events, particularly relating to various points of fan engagement.

(40%) Online Channel Management and Posting

  • Post regular IG wall posts on Sexy Nerds and BKCC IG channels weekly.

  • Prepare and send out mailing list blasts.

  • Post updates in Facebook event pages and on key FB groups.

  • Post weekly raffle giveaway instructional and winner posts on key channels.

(40%) Strategic Meetings and Internal Communications

  • Participate in strategy meetings and input feedback where helpful.

  • Report on to do, doing, and done tasks and responsibilities. 

  • Take interest or initiative on certain project points where relevant. 

(20%) Event Planning, Activation and Participation

  • Help us set up and operate our in-person public facing operations.

  • Help us maximize the engagement with the public and collect key info.

  • Help us run point of sale and speak to the public where needed.

  • Be nice, and cool, and chill.

Qualifications Requested: 

The Community Manager is like a social media manager / brand ambassador hybrid. 

  • Knowledge and experience with online channels and community building.

  • Dialed into media culture, an early adopter. In tune with the latest channels. 

  • A passion and focus for at least one type of fandom (gaming, comics, anime etc.) 

  • Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects a plus. 

  • Interest in any of: blockchain/crypto, memes, and/or cannabis a plus. 

  • Interest in entrepreneurship/personal development is a plus.

  • Active or historic member of the Sexy Nerds community is a big plus! 

Compensation and Benefits

The Community Manager position will start off with a freelance consulting format.
