What is Yuppie Psycho?!

Independent video game developers and publishers often produce projects that are truly unique and memorable. One such game is Yuppie Psycho, developed by indie studio Baroque Decay Games and published by VGNYsoft for the Nintendo Switch, Yuppie Psycho: Executive Edition!

Baroque Decay Games

Welcome to Sintracorp.

The game is set in the 1990’s, in a dystopian society (hmmm), where players take on the role of Brian Pasternack. A young man with a bleak future, Brian is hired by one of the world's largest companies, Sintracorp. Once he gets to work he realizes that this is no ordinary company (or is it?)… The game is a survival horror, It’s the first day of work and evil is out.

We won’t give too much away, but Brian is fated to meet all kinds of odd office characters, encounter some powerful creatures, and unravel the hidden secrets of Sintracorp's nefarious past.

One of the strange and and unique features of Yuppie Psycho is the way it encourages you to play workplace politics and kind of blend into the office in an eerily familiar way. As the day goes on, things only get weirder. Again, without giving too much away, just wait until you ride the elevator.

The trailer is wild from the start!

You will find very quickly in the new office that you are expected to enjoy and mimick some typical office banter and drivel. I probably paid more attention to these officemates than I ever did of my real ones. Players will learn office protocol, knowing when to chat, when to work, and when to cower in terror from otherworldly beings. Engaging in watercooler conversation is also important, as investigating co-workers can reveal their sordid, blood-soaked secrets.

Players must also assess their health and safety, using different light methods to light their path and reveal what is breathing in the dark.

Job Requirements:

  • Familiarize Yourself with Your Workspace: Use the elevator to discover who’s working and what’s lurking on every floor of Sintracorp.

  • Learn Office Protocol: Learn when to chat, when to work, and when to cower in terror from otherworldly beings.

  • Engage in Watercooler Conversation: Investigate your co-workers and discover their sordid, blood-soaked secrets.

  • Consider your five-year goal: Only you can choose how this story will end, so make your decisions carefully!

  • Assess health and safety: Use different light methods to light your path and reveal what is breathing in the dark.

  • Conduct a Rigorous Personal Assessment: Find clues, solve riddles, discover new paths - all without letting the Witch catch you!

Talk about toxic workplaces and bosses…

Conducting a rigorous personal assessment is also a key part of Yuppie Psycho. Players must find clues, solve riddles, and discover new paths, all without letting the witch catch them. The game gives players the freedom to choose their own path, and every decision they make will impact the outcome of the story.

Yuppie Psycho definitely kind of hit’s strangely close to home. I have encouraged my friends to play and they have been discovering demonic forces within their own workplaces, with surprising results!

An Elite Edition of Yuppie Psycho is being given away:

Definitely a don’t try this at home situation, it may serve as an outlet to realize sweet release from the vortex of souls at work. Also, the Elite Edition of the game is particularly noteworthy, as it includes a physical cartridge, a 24-page booklet, a certificate of authenticity, a Brian Pasternack employee ID card, a Sintracorp safety information folded poster, a premium metallic effect cover, and is individually numbered.

Only 5000 units were produced, and it will never be reprinted, making it a collector's item for fans of indie games, and another great example of the kind of immersive experience indie studios can give to their fans who are ready to take a trip to the water-cooler and beyond!
